Liverpool Closing in on £30m Acquisition of Giorgi Mamardashvili
Reports indicate that Liverpool is nearing a deal to sign the Georgian international from Valencia for £29.9 million. Despite the significant transfer fee, Mamardashvili won’t be joining Liverpool’s squad until next season. According to Sky Sports, Liverpool has agreed to pay £25.6 million up front, with an additional £4.3 million in add-ons, but Mamardashvili will remain on loan at Valencia for the remainder of this season. ESPN FC also confirms that while the deal isn’t finalized, negotiations are progressing positively, with the fee likely around €40 million ($44 million).
At 23, Mamardashvili would be Liverpool’s first incoming transfer of the summer. However, his arrival does little to address the immediate needs of the squad. As for the departures, Liverpool has seen several players leave or go out on loan: Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara were released, while Calvin Ramsay and Anderson Arroyo joined Wigan Athletic and Burgos respectively. Adrian, Fabian Mrozek, Billy Koumetio, Lewis Koumas, Fabio Carvalho, and Luca Stephenson have also left the club on loan or been released.
You might expect that a new manager would bring a flurry of new signings, but it seems Arne Slot will have to be patient before he can stamp his mark on the team. Liverpool’s lack of action in the transfer market has been a talking point, and it remains to be seen how the current squad will fare in the upcoming season.
